Darius Anthony

Company Director/Founder

Darius Anthony is a contemporary dance artist and educator whose work centers on improvisation, emotional flow, and somatic intelligence. He uses The Anthos Method a practice that explores movement as a living, evolving process shaped by instinct, presence, and embodied experience. Darius is a teacher, dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker dedicated to cultivating artistry, discipline, and self-expression in young artists. A native of Kannapolis, North Carolina, he earned his BFA in Choreography and Performance with K–12 Teaching Licensure from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Raleigh has a vibrant dance community, but professional performance opportunities and connections for adult dancers remain limited. Anthony Performance Group was created to bridge that gap and change that. APG is an inclusive multi-generational contemporary dance company that embraces movement as a living, evolving expression of the human experience. Rooted in improvisation, emotional awareness, circular flow, and embodied practice, our work values authenticity over perfection and process as much as performance. We foster spaces where artists can listen deeply, take creative risks, and discover movement from within, creating performances that invite audiences into honest, present, and transformative encounters.

Why APG?

I chose to dance with APG because performing with a professional company is something I’ve always wanted to pursue as a career. I’m excited to continue growing as an artist, challenging myself through new experiences, and expanding my movement vocabulary. APG gives me the opportunity to keep training, perform alongside other artists, and learn from the creative process while taking the next step in my professional dance career.

She has also gained experience in screen dance and videography, expanding her creative practice beyond the stage and into film. Madison is trained in many styles, including hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, West African, and ballet, and continues to explore the intersection of these styles within her movement and choreography.

Why APG?

I chose APG because after graduating, it was hard finding a consistent group of people to dance and create with. After hearing about this company I have something to look forward to at the end of every week when life tends to pile on.

Nahyme Romero-Larios

Company Member

My name is Nahyme, and dancing has always been something that I have been passionate about, and that makes me happy! I am originally from Kannapolis, NC, where I started off dancing ballet for about a year. I got involved in my highschool’s color guard, which exposed me to a more modern style of dancing, and that is where my love for dancing grew even more. I performed in various color guard shows for about 6 years until I moved for college. After that, dance was something I always wanted to do again, but I didn't feel like I had the time. I also found it difficult to find a space that felt right for me and my skill level. I chose to join Anthony Performance Group because it provided that welcoming and inclusive space!

Why APG?

I chose to join Anthony Performance Group because it provided that welcoming and inclusive space! I am still growing as a dancer, and this company has allowed me to surround myself with dancers with different skill sets to learn from. It feels great to be part of a company that makes me feel supported and encouraged to keep getting better. I am excited to have a place where I can express myself again, and I can’t wait to see what is to come for this company!
