A room in the back of my mind
“A Room in the Back of My Mind” is a piece that explores concepts of escapism, self connection, and how we navigate trauma and other heightened emotions at the crossroads of external pressures. This is an ensemble work built on a larger production entitled “Thresholds,” which is currently being produced and will be performed by Anthony Performance Group, a new professional dance company based in Raleigh, NC, under the direction of Darius Anthony.
Thresholds is a production that invites audiences on a journey through the unseen landscapes of the human experience. Centered around the original ensemble work, A Room in the Back of My Mind, explores escapism in its many different forms influenced by the ways we navigate a world filled with uncertainty, trauma, self connection, and transformation.
Rather than offering simple answers, Thresholds embraces curiosity and reflection. Through movement, improvisation, and embodied storytelling, the piece invites viewers to recognize themselves within each room—to confront what they hold onto, celebrate what brings them joy, and consider who they are becoming.
Ultimately, Thresholds is a reminder that while each of us carries an inner world unseen by others, we are united by our shared capacity to feel, remember, connect, heal, and grow. It is an invitation to step into the room, explore the landscapes within, and leave with a deeper understanding of both ourselves and one another.
